Will India be able to boycott Chinese products?
The hashtag #Boycottchinesegoods is trending in and off social media. The violent clashes which took place at the Indo-china border also shook the country amidst the lockdown. The decision by the Indian government to ban the Chinese deals signed by Indian telecom companies is a step to reduce India’s dependence on China.
The Telecom Ministry of India ordered al the state-run telecom companies such as Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) and other such private companies to close all the Chinese deals and equipments. The government asked the companies to ban all the deals and equipments during the process of their company’s up-gradation
An official related to the issue said that the companies have decided to avoid the Chinese supply of equipment, parts, and components for 4G networks proposed by BSNL and MTNL. The Indian government also cancelled the tender floated by BSNL earlier. The official also added that they also recommend private players to close the Chinese deals.
The up-gradation process of the 4G network is also likely to get affected since China is one of the major suppliers of equipments. The Indian government also repeatedly recommends service providers to modify conditions in such a way that Chinese companies won’t be able to participate in the tender.
Reports indicate that conditions will be directed to private players also such that it cancels the Chinese deals and prohibits further new purchases. Amidst the clashes in the China-Indo border government is taking these steps to reduce the dependence on Chinese products.
In the attack at Line of actual control (LAC) at least 20 army officials were killed. This incident triggered a lot for complete boycott of Chinese products.
